This might be the sweetest picture I've seen in a long time! Look at this darling little bunny in his Easter outfit! Not sure who made that outfit but its precious!</div>

Congratulations to Joe, Stephanie and Nonnie Debbie.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made up a quilt to welcome little Joey into the world. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilt in the background is the back of a disappearing 9-patch in teeny woodland creatures flannels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Disappearing or split 9 patch. This a great design if you have 3 or 4 fabrics but not sure what to do with them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Create blocks of 9 patches, I like to make the most contrasting fabric the center square.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then cut the block into 4. Turn and sew back together. No pattern needed really.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one was with 4.5" squares. made 20 blocks. End quilt 48x60</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can look on Pinterest and see so many ways to put it together. </div>

</div>
Happy New Year! Can't believe its 2019 already! I am still back posting some of my projects, hopefully will be caught up soon.<br />
<br />
In August 2018, I hosted a sew day/workshop for my Busy Bees Quilt Group at my house in Happy Valley, Oregon. We decided to create Quillages. I learned this method several years ago from a book by Karen Eckmeier's <a href="http://quilted-lizard.com/patterns.htm" target="_blank">Happy Village</a>. I'll give an overview of how we did it, but please purchase/check out Karen's book and website <a href="http://quilted-lizard.com/patterns.htm" target="_blank">http://quilted-lizard.com/patterns.htm </a>, the instructions are very good and she has some amazing samples to give you many ideas.<br />
<br />
We spent about 4-5 hrs and most of us got the layout done or very close. I like this as a workshop because you only need your machine for the quilting and binding.<br />
<br />
We start off by cutting primitive shapes and laying them over our background, which was just a 16" muslin square. We added some shapes for the water, mountains and background as desired.<br />
<br />
I like to use a few dots of Roxanne's glue baste for each piece. This is a less permanent solution and allows you to change your mind.<br />

This was mine. I got feedback that i had too many pieces and was in over my head....but i kept going!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It did take another afternoon to finish, but i think adding some lace and little touches did the trick.</div>

You see that the pink hardly shows but the shimmer and the sparkles give it a Portlandia kind of feel. Oh yea, and take care when machine quilting through sequined tulle, you may break a needle, just saying...<br />
<br />
You know <span style="text-align: center;">I love a striped binding! This one i actually finished the following week and it sat in the corner, waiting for me to hand stitch the binding on, which I did last night. One good thing about being sick is all my hand projects get attention. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">And what is up this is darn cold people!. This is the 4th time since October and it is yet another virus/sinus infection turned bronchitis. After I knock this out, i should be able to withstand a plague! Sorry, venting, and since i can't breath through my nose that's not so easy.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">For those of you were in the workshop, please add comments and post your finished quillages. It will be fun to see the end results. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">Thank you my sister bees for trying something new! I love to see how each of us is creative in our own ways and the same instructions are interpreted so differently.</span><br />

We did a test run with a group of 6 and this is the first one. Since rarely do anything in its simplistic form, I inserted a folded rectangle in between each end to end. Then opened and pinned each one to make cathedral windows. </div>

I got permission to share the photos because they are so dang cute. The quilt was huge and Theo looked a little lonely so Ren joined in the show. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
So we finally did the actual jelly roll race. I chose this Grunge Jelly Roll - Moda. <span style="text-align: center;">For the prep, I added a square in a square block in between each end to end. </span>The race a lot of fun and we had about 12 participants. Most of which who have finished their quilts! I shared a long table with another Bernina person and that table was shaking so hard I could not thread the needle. Crazy people! Lots of yelling and whooping! </div>

It you have a jelly roll and need to get a quilt top done in a day, give this a shot. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The prep. No planning, just sew your strips end to end in a very long strip. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 1 Take the two ends and sew wrong sides together. It will likely be twisted, but when you get to the last few inches you can press flat and cut with scissors. First round takes about 40-45 min. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 2 repeat, each round cuts time in half, Repeat until you get the size you want. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you pinterest, you will find jelly roll race variations. If anyone wants to know instructions for my variations, let me know and I'll work up a tutorial to share.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you get a chance to sew this week!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a project I worked over last Christmas. A year ago, my friend Jonathan passed away. My friend Amy Austin suggested that I make quilts from his shirts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I asked his wife Sara for some of his shirts so I could make some keepsakes for his children. She sent me some of his work and dress shirts and some t-shirts.</div>

I wanted to share these quilts with you to give you some ideas for some keepsake quilts.<br />

I hope you all get a chance to sew this week!<br />

<br />
Last month we traveled to Tennessee to watch Pete's daughter Summer get married. The wedding was in Lebanon in a beautiful woodsy chapel. Summer was absolutely radiant and so was Matt. The ceremony and reception was intimate with just close friends and relatives. The reception was a lot of fun and there was much dancing.<br />

I started on the wedding quilt as soon as I heard, but had possibility paralysis! I know Summer is a strong Christian and has very modern taste. For the fabric, I chose Natalie Barnes <a href="line.https://www.windhamfabrics.net/php/fabricshop/fabricshop.php?a=sc&Category=1019" target="_blank">Maker's Home</a> and lots of Kona Silver.</div>

This gave me a chance to play with my Quick Curve Rulers by Sew Kind of Wonderful and leave lots of wide open space for custom quilting. I have been Pinterest stalking Judi Madsen and all related quilters. I have two of her books and just love her work. </div>

Lauren is a wonderful person and we are all looking forward to having her as part of our family.</div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Her bridal shower was yesterday and I unfortunately wasn't able to attend. But it looks like she had a great time.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the bride, I made a wedding purse. Traditionally at weddings, our family traditionally does a dollar dance, where we bless the newly weds with gobs of cash. This is always a lot of fun and fruitful for the new couple. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Assembly: 8 pieces were cut from Satin. 4 of which were embellished and embroidered for the outside, 4 for the inside. + a pocket for the inside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then each outside embellished piece was sewn to an inside piece (wrong sides together) and then turned, the hole was hand stitched. (I recommend a light facing). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Button holes were made by hand (thanks Mom!) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then the sides were hand stitched up the 3/4 of each side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two cords were folded in half and threaded through from either side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bag was embellished with lace from Lauren's mother's wedding dress. How do you cut up a wedding dress? My Aunt Debbie did it for her. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Daniel's mom, Debbie St. Pierre, collected photos of women from both Daniel's side of the family and Lauren's. I took all the photos into Photoshop and made them all similar in size and used a sepia hue to give them an antique feel. I printed them onto a fabric sheet and heat set. Then ironed to fusible web. I cut out the photos and ironed them in place. Then did the embellishments and embroidery.</div>

After the wedding, this becomes a prayer bag, where her hopes and prayers can be watched over by the many amazing women in her family, as the Lord works his ways. These women have experienced every situation as wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, aunts and on and on. Many of them teachers which is a special legacy for Lauren who is a school teacher as well.<br />

<span style="text-align: center;">The pattern I purchased for Julie's wedding. By Roxanne's Ribonnry. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">This is the 2nd wedding purse I made. The first, I made for Daniel's sister Julie in 2009. The first one looked a little more traditional crazy quilting style, with different fabrics. This one was mostly lace. The project took about 6 months, but just because I have to think about a thing before I act on it. Once you get started and visualize where you are headed, you just start. Don't be afraid to leave areas you don't like or are just ok. Life isn't like Facebook where you only post your perfection, when you look back to areas you don't like, they are equally part of who you are. So leave it all, it makes it richer!</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
My Aunt Debbie says that Lauren loved the purse! So I guess mission accomplished.<br />
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">The crazy quilting thing is fun and freeing. I am not sure I would like to do this for a whole quilt but maybe a photo album cover (do people even use those?) or prayer box for someone special.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
Thank you all for stopping by!<br />
<br />
I hope you had a chance to sew this weekend!<br />

Changed positions at my company KETIV Technologies and am enjoying the new challenges. I am now the Customer Experience Manager and manage a great team of technical specialists. Less travel and lots of what I love which is problem solving.</div>

What about Quilting?</div>
<div>
I will share some of the projects I've made over the last year and half over the next new posts. I'll try to post weekly, so hold me to it ;]</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The funny thing is that I have a tech background and I have yet to find a good way to get my photos from my phone and nice new cannon camera to my computer to make them readily available to post on my blog. Lame excuse, but what is everyone using these days? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

I just did an applique workshop for my Busy Bees group last week. I made up this little sample. It was fun and several of the people gave it a whirl. Can't wait to see their finish projects. Here's my sample.</div>

Thanks for stopping by! My husband and I just moved to Oregon from Southern California. <br />
<br />
We bought a house in Happy Valley. We are loving Oregon with the change in seasons. Have a yard now so summer means working in the yard and playing in the pond in our backyard.<br />
<br />
I've been quilting for about 25 years now but have been sewing since I was little. Quilting is my artistic outlet. My favorite thing about it is that there are guidelines and guidelines and rules, but then you can throw them all out and do whatever you want. I like to take my thinking out of the box mind and twist up something traditional and end up with something new.<br />
<br />
While I usually have 15-20 projects going at all phases, I love completing things. I like to stay up late and push through to completion....sometimes.<br />
<br />
I don't really have a style, except if you ask my friends, they'll say I like to complicate things. I would have to agree completely. I like puzzles and love a good challenge.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Some things I've learned...</span><br />
so here are some of mine.. or is mine the worst advice...lol. These i use in everyday life as well.<br />
<br />
1. Never stop at a mistake. Fix it right away! Otherwise you will avoid picking up that project ever again.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGMGAdpbzgyjFWpmsi50SpFRUAAvd79J9fVLyNesv0uEhyZxH_w-ajcY2jKv1dkjx4rr4LkSC3N0WKaqY-qjYvZieb8B7N9sM17sECMNdQhyzZA9AabgFWLleKRsbRFJNJXhUrSjg4Q74/s1600/summers+quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGMGAdpbzgyjFWpmsi50SpFRUAAvd79J9fVLyNesv0uEhyZxH_w-ajcY2jKv1dkjx4rr4LkSC3N0WKaqY-qjYvZieb8B7N9sM17sECMNdQhyzZA9AabgFWLleKRsbRFJNJXhUrSjg4Q74/s1600/summers+quilt.JPG" height="320" width="186" /></a>2. Never tell yourself..."I can't do this" If you enjoy it, then do it. Find a way or a technique that works for you.<br />
<br />
3. Practice the areas that are rough until they are no longer rough.<br />
<br />
4. Ask questions of others whose work you admire...and then write it down. I have forgotten more great tips and had to bump my head on the same wall when it hits me "Du-Oph! Oh yeah, I forgot about that!<br />
<br />
4. Before starting a project, take a few minutes to think it through. <br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>How long will this take? </li>
<li>Do i have what i need? </li>
<li>Do i know what I'm doing?</li>
<li>Do I really care about any of the above? </li>
<li>Sometimes you just have to sit down and start.</li>
</ul>
<div>
5. Are there ever any projects that I throw away? No! Everything will eventually end up in something. Really it will!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
6. Does everything have to be a quilt? NO! Tried that...made one block. Hey look a wall hanging!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

7. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. This project took me 10 years to complete. Hand appliqued, hand quilted. Just finished this year. Thought I would never be done.</div>

Well....its a long story. Here is the short edited version. Pete and I transferred our jobs up to Oregon. We both managed to keep our jobs of 15+ years and work the same companies in different states. We love Oregon, love the rain and the green.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We rented a house for about 6 mos and then started house hunting. Last month we bought a house in a quiet little pocket of Happy Valley. 1970's house fully updated with a beautiful water feature in the backyard. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyZUq3Ao1xTvzjCqOviKvZMSfr_DNX4aK1tOJWz8z9IK2O9NT72N8yvSpTXW7muSaFnOhQTEQ1oxInOk28Z9A' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We have never had a yard so this should be fun. Pete bought a lawn mower and I am already loving going outside after work, weeding, trimming and playing in the dirt. I hear that its only 4 mos out of the year, so that might give me some time to sew.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
So while I was moving from November 2013 until last month, I decided to store all my quilting stuff and finish a hand quilt that I started in 2004. Yes that would make it 10 years, but I am finished! I love the way it turned out. The outer blocks were done by my EZ Quilter friendship group. But influenced by every quilter who saw the work in progress. I love it and its finally home on my bed.</div>

I haven't had anything I could share for a little while. Have been working on some top secret stuff and working on our Flying Geese Quilt Show coming up this September. I am in charge of vendors this year at the show. Its fun to see how all the different pieces of the show work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So today I'm sharing a 4-patch posie that I did last summer at the EZQ mountain retreat. My friend Sharon Sutton had some great tips so she shared them with us. She is totally hooked and has been popping these out like candy. This is my second one and I'll tell you its a lot easier than stack and whack!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This one only uses 4 repeat instead of 8 and squares are pretty easy to handle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It too me a while to determine a sashing for this and I went out on a ledge for this one with some fabric I bought a while back and was just dying to use it in something.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is a lot of quilting in this one, I wanted an opportunity to practice my machine quilting. Note the large panel down the left side. This to me is more of a challenge than borders. What the heck to do with all that wide open space?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sorry about the poor quality photos, I'm a quilter not a photographer ;]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As quilt judges would say...."...ambitious quilting there on the borders and background, lol.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the side panel, I broke up the space and did a zentangle type design. It really helped me just jump in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are every wondering what to do in a wide open space, divide it somehow and just play in the different sections. Its fun and turns out really well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I roughly drew on the sections here to give you an idea of how i divided the space.</div>

I've been working like crazy and trying to set some time aside for the stuff I like to do. Found a slice of time on Thursday night to visit with my friend Sharla at <a href="http://www.softexpressions.com/">Soft Expressions</a>. Seems she has been zentangling with a wonderful bunch of people from dusk till dawn. Yep...Its a zentangle friendship group and they welcomed me with open arms. I sat down and got back to tangling. They meet once a month at Soft Expression and usually learn a new tangle pattern or two. Maybe a new technique, tool or toy to play with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the first one I made when I sat down. After some direction from Sharla, I just started drawing and this is what came out. The piece is only 3"square so not very large.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06RsEi-foLlgLf-mZ8r-IMSZefi03IhxAmtdUR9QouMUua-EV167a4MVvLCu2aFYxY2UjIK1OUe_tpUUwRNDax-lYvzJ2ceFB3CSakfPl7irTIX_pEdkZ1z60ywXX2Qf5mVxP8AlCBUw/s1600/IMG_1097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06RsEi-foLlgLf-mZ8r-IMSZefi03IhxAmtdUR9QouMUua-EV167a4MVvLCu2aFYxY2UjIK1OUe_tpUUwRNDax-lYvzJ2ceFB3CSakfPl7irTIX_pEdkZ1z60ywXX2Qf5mVxP8AlCBUw/s400/IMG_1097.JPG" width="393" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then she passed out some more of her favorite tools, This is white on black was done with a white Gelly Roll Pen and Pastel Chalk pencil for the shading. I am learning shading as you can see. These two pieces were done in about 2.5 hrs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHCNMcz1EhRjGFiXvapUdBC1d_iQNalZXvE07j2HHaz0wChuImCxBU0AxTcfjhnej0m3d9JSuIWiBgxd_DQOVMVaXbvS4506mrE9oWqnPgr6SaHOn4gW8PehHhAXoyITOtO1EdWhpnXKk/s1600/IMG_1096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHCNMcz1EhRjGFiXvapUdBC1d_iQNalZXvE07j2HHaz0wChuImCxBU0AxTcfjhnej0m3d9JSuIWiBgxd_DQOVMVaXbvS4506mrE9oWqnPgr6SaHOn4gW8PehHhAXoyITOtO1EdWhpnXKk/s640/IMG_1096.JPG" width="465" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sharla Hicks is a Certified Zentangle Instructor and owns and teaches at Soft Expressions. Here is a list of her upcoming classess </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.softexpressions.com/1/Class.php">Zentangle Classes</a></span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you have never taken art classes or are an accomplished artist. This is a different way to expand your brain and learn to fill space. It is typically done in smaller bite sized pieces so you can actually accomplish something incredible in a small amount of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started zentangling in 2011. It has really helped with my quilting by showing me how you can free form draw in a structured space. I highly recommend taking the time out to take some classes you will amaze yourself at what you can create. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you all get a chance to sew and relax this weekend. That's what I'm doing ;]</div>

Amanda and Tessa King spent about 5 hours with me yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First we talked a little about what we wanted to do. They learned about contrasting and complimenting fabrics. Then I gave them some time to poke through my stash of larger pieces and pick a focus fabric. I planned about an hour for this.. and they were done in 10 min. No brainer for them, I need to learn that trick. Look at the wonderful fabric choices here.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had them each take two squares and draw an "X" diagonally. Then they had to sew 1/4" on either side of each line. Wow Aunti this is hard.....after a while, Wow this is so easy! Then we cut them apart for 16 little half square triangles. Magic! Sewing the little pieces together took a little helped with the pinning but they did all the sewing.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Took a little longer to sew these together, but the girls did very good and we pressed on even though we were getting a little tired. Around 3:30 we started looking at the clock. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Girls: "Are we going to finish with the quilt today?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aunti: "Girls, we are just getting started we've got 9 more to make!" Big toothy grin ;]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Girls: "Ooo no!" girly giggles all around</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Their Mom and Dad came back about five as we were finished up our last seams. They got to see a little of the action. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Tessa, she was student of the week last we at school. She loves pink and blue and found some fun fabrics and even got a chance to use one of the ones she brought. Her favorite part is the ironing part and asked her Mommy if she had any shirts she needed ironing. Her Mom (Dawn) and I both looked at each other and said "Really?"</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWjd_NqnEqAHIn6Fe3P5hhQRjAwX33LbwU5uwzY_86t5Sv-JlnXEKQ16s3uur8V3uR0wcNRJGAzo74VS_gA_5_s1CzuR6-65wXUhiaMIjT8X3YSeSo2ZrQZoKFvRI635TlzyRsdGrGdMk/s1600/IMG_1071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWjd_NqnEqAHIn6Fe3P5hhQRjAwX33LbwU5uwzY_86t5Sv-JlnXEKQ16s3uur8V3uR0wcNRJGAzo74VS_gA_5_s1CzuR6-65wXUhiaMIjT8X3YSeSo2ZrQZoKFvRI635TlzyRsdGrGdMk/s640/IMG_1071.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This Amanda. She likes all the parts of quilting, but probably sewing on the machine the most. She has a headband that disappears and reappears on her head right where she left it. Apparently her sister has the ability to make it reappear. I have glasses that do that...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Willie came in and investigated and played and hid a lot, and napped a lot. Toward the end, Pete went into the kitchen and willie followed him and this was what we heard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Willie: "Mrowww" trans. (hey dad)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pete: "Hey buddy, theres girls and girly stuff everywhere huh?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Willie: "Mroww rowwwo wowo wwow mrow" trans "Yeah you should see it, there needles and razors and hot irons and momma's eyes are all bulgy!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So we got to finish 3 blocks. We are probably going to make a 12 block quilt, MAYBE one or two with fusible applique. Add a border and binding. We are going to display their quilts in our guild show that's coming up in September.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now i have to go grocery shopping and our breakfasts and lunches for the week. Pete and I are <u>enjoying</u> a 28 day Paleo Challenge. Basically Meat, Veggies, Fruit, Nuts and Seeds. One week down and I think we are doing pretty good! Its a little more effort and planning but the results are worth it.</div>

Since this is a quilting blog, here is the latest skinny at Aunti Nicole's Corner. <span style="text-align: center;">Was at Road to California weekend before last. My Mom and friend Phyllis stayed with me. I took Friday off to go with them to a long arm quilting class with DeLoa Jones. http://www.deloasquiltshop.com/ </span></div>

Great class I highly recommend it. I bought some new tools which I'll post soon</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The class was called Block Party and it discussed what to do with sampler blocks. The challenge is to make a continuous pattern for each block and not have to stop. <br />
Wow what a busy year! I can honestly say that 2012 was not a lazy year. <br />
In May I bought a Tin Lizzie and have been cranking out UFO's like mad. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrUpXV9TA1Eq4cqBQ5Bebxj0sxzkufwjmyVjZxIn19e8iYLMmPyEVsTkCDMWwyuAUUrUTaq92fa6AcPzl0sCWCDcRbaqq8qS637fRdfVmOY3HN8yoO4w4Rzh_eJENiFzXEBee0uriGqXM/s1600/1-1-2013+10-45-16+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrUpXV9TA1Eq4cqBQ5Bebxj0sxzkufwjmyVjZxIn19e8iYLMmPyEVsTkCDMWwyuAUUrUTaq92fa6AcPzl0sCWCDcRbaqq8qS637fRdfVmOY3HN8yoO4w4Rzh_eJENiFzXEBee0uriGqXM/s200/1-1-2013+10-45-16+AM.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9zLzDePGyZ3ge59aexCgNKo87NBokEL4_PPDT2kAK_4wKrhXom5vRvPPruaA0Mu4Ji37BfEsFsW2s_GVtKmp8ht06sBNzd3NqXHlQPTAqEzcHRF11gUYG1Un983nWbHbzXmhs6KvOSjU/s1600/1-1-2013+10-43-50+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="154" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9zLzDePGyZ3ge59aexCgNKo87NBokEL4_PPDT2kAK_4wKrhXom5vRvPPruaA0Mu4Ji37BfEsFsW2s_GVtKmp8ht06sBNzd3NqXHlQPTAqEzcHRF11gUYG1Un983nWbHbzXmhs6KvOSjU/s200/1-1-2013+10-43-50+AM.jpg" width="200" /></a>In July 2013, I was sick of sitting on my duff and got off it. My best friend Dione and her husband own a <a href="http://www.crossfitzen.org/">Crossfit Zen</a> gym in Manhattan Beach and helped me find a crossfit organization in my area. I joined <a href="http://citizencrossfit.com/">Citizen Crossfit </a> and haven't stopped moving since. The people at Citizen and Crossfit Zen are really supportive and they push me just enough and scale down what I can't handle. I went from being tired old couch potato to the best shape I've been in for 20 years. I feel great and have made some great new friends in the process. I could go on about this (So says my husband) but this is a quilting blog afterall...onward! <br />
<br />
Working out 5-6 days a week and changing my eating habits have taken up a lot of my free time. But its all time I was wasting before with things like sleep and procrastination. I actually now have more energy for quilting, yeah!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32-4FODwv0-8oQdJWT41PjYPBjv0q0NIHSEXIiRmm3ttfVEFIsD3gzcbDnwERQkkUD0ObitCMAIKPuhXafaWZFdsbOROyGVbvBkNQHci2d7aulBr9Q4hCXMfHhenVYJGyZslB9mwsKEo/s1600/IMG_1907.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32-4FODwv0-8oQdJWT41PjYPBjv0q0NIHSEXIiRmm3ttfVEFIsD3gzcbDnwERQkkUD0ObitCMAIKPuhXafaWZFdsbOROyGVbvBkNQHci2d7aulBr9Q4hCXMfHhenVYJGyZslB9mwsKEo/s320/IMG_1907.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This huge 9 patch was a block exchange with my EZ Quilters group. I ended up with my mom's leftovers after she made hers. I think I only have about 6 blocks left. It took me a while to figure out what border to put on it and my friend Donna said, maybe it doesn't want one. So I asked my quilt, "Really, you done?" and the quilt just sat there there, so I guess it was done. <br />
<br />

Grrr. But I did it anyway. I pinned the side to the top and then clamped it to the lower rails and hang it over the edge. Then I just move it a couple of times. The biggest challenge is to make the back nice and smooth. Just takes patience, which I'm learning. I keep forgetting to take a picture of it.<br />
<br />
I put a little piece of striped fabric for a flange before adding the binding. A colored binding might have taken away from the quilt and a plain binding was just too plain.<br />

I finished this before the holidays and my plan is to give this to my niece Madison who graduates from high school this year. Done early? are you kidding?<br />
<br />
So I've been on vacation for 11 days, today is the last day. We got to go up to the mountains Mt. Shasta/Weed for Christmas and spent some time with my folks and my sister Dana and her chillen. It was so nice to spend time with them all. Sniff sniff, I miss em already.<br />

Yesterday I finally got back into my quilt room and cranked out 3 projects.<br />
The first was a philanthropy quilt top made by someone in our guild. I try to quilt one of the unfinished tops as often as possible. The fun wiggly design breaks up the stripes and plaids.<br />

<br />
My friend Sharon made this for philanthropy and asked me to quilt it for her. I have had it a while so it was time to get this one done too. The basket with flowers was my mum's idea. <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
My friend Hilary made this beautiful quilt top for her daughter. She asked me to quilt it for her on my Tin Lizzie.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was a little concerned because it was about 7' square and my Falcon frame is exactly 7'. This means that there is at least 6" on both sides that cannot be quilted. Eek! So since I'm a problem solver by nature, naturally I wanted to tackle it ;] </div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I quilted the center of the quilt while folding the excess backing and batting over at bit. It did make the tension a bit of an issue so I made sure it was only 4" excess on each side. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After finishing with the center, I trimmed the excess backing/batting to be exactly 4" from the quilt top.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf9nZ_ZomqlL9dbrLjXBMlzZk4-oeHDlt0eLw9eWGH4vZ9vyI7ceaBMZ_y47EnQLyc3RdxFIKY1hxGvGoRNemoEfMIO7I-wxZIYtD-xu6DltyY9EkzCK4dxS-BOXhqzEOMR-rweBisLh8/s1600/IMG_1895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf9nZ_ZomqlL9dbrLjXBMlzZk4-oeHDlt0eLw9eWGH4vZ9vyI7ceaBMZ_y47EnQLyc3RdxFIKY1hxGvGoRNemoEfMIO7I-wxZIYtD-xu6DltyY9EkzCK4dxS-BOXhqzEOMR-rweBisLh8/s640/IMG_1895.JPG" width="480" /></a>I turned the quilt 90 degrees on the rack and used the large straight pins to pin it at the top. Then I used clamps over the lower roller to secure the bottom. I quilted 1/2" of one side, moved it over repinned and did the other half. Then the other side. It actually worked out pretty well. No puckers ;] I love "Duck Tape" workarounds.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am in the process of quilting a large 9 patch and have the same problem. I'll posted pictures of how I did the sides this time and repost the tutorial.</div>

Does your husband have old shirts that he just won't throw away? Even though they are so old he will never wear them again? <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well mine did! My friend Nancy Chocek did a t-shirt quilt workshop a couple of weeks ago. I seizes the opportunity to make my husband clean out his t-shirt drawer. He was willing since it was for a good cause....a quilt for him ;]<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
This quilt has a little bits of my husband in it. Just to make sure, I quilted writing across the blocks. Hard to see in the picture, but he appreciated it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
I had purchased this beautiful "tale of the dragon" fabric from Alexander Henry a year or so ago but could not bring myself to cut it up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2bWVCU1ujfl-g9azxHgr8DDllzwUEmkykIYXbvEfZibLONaJhGh8gou5KLx75OmEfwu14eS6-y1C0KRqPMRCnwDpAgwmOJ1WNDeaEsz1geSYr6UlAoITlAGLM5CX3Fxi0Ha-_5325tyk/s1600/IMG_1881.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2bWVCU1ujfl-g9azxHgr8DDllzwUEmkykIYXbvEfZibLONaJhGh8gou5KLx75OmEfwu14eS6-y1C0KRqPMRCnwDpAgwmOJ1WNDeaEsz1geSYr6UlAoITlAGLM5CX3Fxi0Ha-_5325tyk/s640/IMG_1881.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The orange I bought at <a href="http://www.beyondthereefpatterns.com/">Beyond the Reef</a> last year. Also had to have it and didn't know what I wanted to do with it. It goes just perfect with the dragons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
So its done and quilted. Just have to put on a binding and voila!<br />
<br />

<span style="text-align: left;">My guild does mini workshops over the course of the year. I got to take two in the last month. The first was was by Nancy Chocek. She has pretty much mastered the T-shirt quilt thing. She shared some great tips with us and we got a lot done in the workshop including plenty of laughs.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got most of the blocks made in the class and now I'm in the process of setting them. Check back in the next couple of weeks, you might see a finished quilt, lol.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32OTiBw5FS7Fv3iSPOHDl4Ya30983joPKExAjlBqPN4_p1AgjNZcQ1uXOoIyaqsqkiSELlT-GId8yImr4ncr816cKpnQLfWwcLJP53l30tigtT1MkcDAPClffETKuF34IE_2NMOUlw2A/s1600/IMG_1874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="523" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg32OTiBw5FS7Fv3iSPOHDl4Ya30983joPKExAjlBqPN4_p1AgjNZcQ1uXOoIyaqsqkiSELlT-GId8yImr4ncr816cKpnQLfWwcLJP53l30tigtT1MkcDAPClffETKuF34IE_2NMOUlw2A/s640/IMG_1874.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So another workshop I did was by my dear friend and fabric artist<a href="http://eileenwintemute.blogspot.com/"> Eileen Wintemute</a>. Her's was Beading Embellishment workshop. Here is a picture of her sample. Can't believe how much I learned in so little time. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mine isn't very far but will be working on that in the next couple of weeks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"> One of my friends in the class Sandy Ingraham did a Christmas stocking and she finished hers already! I had to make it big so you can see the cutes little buttons on the bottom. Great job Sandy.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Great job on both workshops ladies, I ready enjoyed them. What a great way to spend a couple of Saturdays. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ok, more to come. Next week I'm going on a retreat with my EZ Quilter friends. Four days, of pure unadulterated quilting in a cozy house with 12 good friends. Noice!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hopefully I'll have lots of pics to share when I get back.</div>

Megan has entered her quilt in my Mom's guild show. Her piece was hand appliqued and she did a fantastic job. Her applique stitches are invisible, a talent that takes years to master. I am so proud of her! And look.. are those ribbons? I'll have to find out the scoop on that...<br />

<br />
<br />
Plus I've been doing a little quilting for some friends. <br />
<br />
I started Croffsit a couple of months ago and have been focusing on eating and working out. Strange how addicting exercise can be, but here I am at 6am on a long holiday weekend and my body is ready to go, of course my brain says quilt quilt quilt. If you have never heard of crossfit, its a combination of endurance, gymnastics and weight training. The work out is different and challenging everyday. Each exercise is scalable meaning, I can't do pull-ups so they have a giant rubber band to help me get there at my pace and smaller weights for me, since I have never done weights. Each workout seems impossible, yet you do get to the end and feel great! ok well tired and great...sore but great! lol. Crossfit is everywhere, look up local crossfit box and I'll bet you've got one near you.<br />
<br />
A lot of catching up to do on the blog so I'll spread it out over the next couple of posts.<br />
<br />
I hope you get to sew some on this wonderful holiday weekend.<br />

So this is my first commissioned quilting job, yeah! <br />

<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;">Happy to be Home! I just got back last night from a week in Flagstaff, AZ. A successful business trip! Now I need to get back to the real business of quilting ;] </span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;">Arrived in Flagstaff Sunday morning at 11am so I took a drive down to Sedona which took about an hour. Must have been a cyclists convention or something cause there were a lot of people on the beautiful winding road to Sedona. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went to the <a href="http://www.quiltersstoresedona.com/">Quilter's Store Sedona</a> while I was there, course. Bought some goodies and saw some really unique pieces made by a local quilter <a href="http://jeromeartists-jardine.blogspot.com/">Mary Jardine</a>. I love how her embellishments jump right off the piece. My photography skills don't do it justice, but you can get the idea. These pieces are all for sale at the shop. </div>

<br />
I worked so much all week that I didn't get to explore much of Flagstaff. I did find out that the quilt store that was there had to close ;[ very sad.<br />
<br />
I did find some interesting food though.<br />

Yes, Don't knock it til you tried it! </span><span style="background-color: white;">Vanilla Ice Cream with ...wait for it... Chicken Fried Bacon. I got it to go and they put it all in separate containers. I crumbled the bacon </span><span style="background-color: white;">(did i mention the bacon was chicken fried by the way)</span><span style="background-color: white;"> on the ice cream and drizzled a little maple syrup and oh wow. My heart literally skipped a beat (could be the </span><span style="background-color: white;">cholesterol</span><span style="background-color: white;">). It was phone home good. I had to tell my hubby about it, being the bacon guy that he is.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">Thurdsay night I went exploring in downtown and ended up at <a href="http://criollolatinkitchen.com/">Criollo</a> The food was so good. I had the seasonal fish, which i believe was Halibut.</span><br />
<strong style="border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Century Gothic', Verdana, Helvetica; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><br /></strong>

<span style="color: #555555; font-family: "century gothic" , "verdana" , "helvetica"; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;"> The presentation was beautiful and I would have taken a picture but it disappeared before I thought of it... and by then it was half eaten so I thought, too bad soo sad! Of all the choices on the list of places to eat the "sustainable" caught my eye. I like companies that are conscious of their community and the environment. I can't say that I only frequent them, but it makes me more likely to be a patron. Good job Croillo!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">Sorry I was so verbose this time. I have so much to share and feel like I've been away alot.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">Hope you were inspired to quilt (or eat) this weekend!</span><br />

My mom was visiting me for the last week. I got to have her for Mother's Day and that was really special. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We went to our guild challenge presentation on Monday night. The challenge was called a history lesson and I was on the committee. It was a huge success. Take a look, mine's in there! <a href="http://www.flying-geese.org/SlideShows/may_challenge.pdf">http://www.flying-geese.org/SlideShows/may_challenge.pdf</a> This was a judged showed and really a great success. I won best Title Sacajawea's iPhone, and got some excellent feedback from the judge. My mom, Jane St.Pierre, had a quilt in the show as well, its 54-40 or fight!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So during the week, I had a bad cold and lots of work so I didn't get to spend a lot of time with mom, but last night after I said lets make something new! She looked at me with one eyebrow raised and said O...K?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I pulled out my Happy Village book I picked up when Karen Eckmeier presented at our guild. I have been wanting to make one and I thought it would be fun and quick. Well I was right!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We did this in about 3 hours, which is great considering we were loopy and tired. The pieces are temporary glued in and there is tule over the top. Now I'll machine quilt it with monopoly. In the future we will probably listen to the recommendation that you don't use prints, but adding a touch of black helped calm our crazy little village down. Very fun, I'll definitely do it again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
